Friday Off Topic Megathread!

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 09:49 PM PDT

It's Friday! Thank the forces of nature!!! It's fun! It's the Friday Off-Topic MEGATHREAD! Grab a beer, or two, and kick back friends!

Please feel free to share any political cartoons, image macros, infographics, memes, or other things that would typically be off-topic here on /r/politics! Please keep in mind that civility rules are still in place, and that meta discussion should be saved for modmail or our monthly meta thread.

April 2018 Meta Thread

Posted: 06 Apr 2018 08:03 AM PDT

Hello /r/politics! Welcome to our meta thread, your monthly opportunity to voice your concerns about the running of the subreddit.

This month we will be trying something a bit different. We will be providing a comment thread for whitelist discussion, please keep all related discussion to that section as any other mentions elsewhere will be removed.

Rule Changes

Our On-Topic Statement

We recently implemented a change to our on-topic statement.

It now reads:

All submissions to /r/politics need to, at a minimum, include an internal discussion or focus about current US politics. This means that if a subject has political implications but does not directly discuss US politics, it is most likely off topic.

Originally, we approved submissions as on-topic if it merely mentioned something explicitly political. For example, this submission was found to be on-topic given that it included the following sentence:

"The London-based political consulting firm was credited with aiding Donald Trump's 2016 US presidential run and was also employed by the Leave campaign during the EU referendum.".

Under the new on-topic statement, this submission would have been found as off-topic because it didn't include discussion or a focus on current US politics.

Ban Enforcement Changes

The moderator team is changing our rule enforcement priorities, in response to user feedback and concerns about consistency of ban actions internally. We will be de-emphasizing tiered bans for general incivility, and focusing instead on removal and filtering of offending content. We will be shifting our ban priorities towards users who flame, bait, troll, harass, and threaten.

March 2018 AMAs

Our upcoming AMAs can be found in the sidebar. As always we'd love your feedback on how we did during these AMAs and suggestions for future AMAs:
