Let's talk about last night: Democrats won the House and flipped several state legislatures and governorships. Republicans increased their majority in the Senate to 54-46 (if their leads in Arizona and Florida hold, and if they win the Mississippi runoff, which they probably will).
Democrats had a decent night but, if they're being honest, it wasn't the night they were hoping for. High profile candidates like Andrew Gillum, Stacey Abrams, and Beto O'Rourke all appear to have come up short (although Abrams has yet to conceded in Georgia). Democrats also came up short in a few suburban House races they were confident in plus the goverships in Ohio and Iowa.
Still, the Democrats accomplished their main goal: gaining control of the House. We expect the newly-empowered Democrats to immediately begin wielding their subpoena power and launch investigations into the Trump administration, and for many Democrats start making moves to run for president in 2020. You've probably heard about Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders but we could also see Mayor Michael Bloomberg, billionaire-turned-climate activist Tom Steyer, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Montana Governor Steve Bullock and many, many more.
Ask me anything about last night's election and the 2020 presidential race.
