Today, the 116th Congress will be sworn in, beginning at 12PM Eastern Time. 8 newly elected Senators (2 Democrats, 6 Republicans) and a whopping 90 House members (63 Democrats, 31 Republicans) will be sworn in to begin their first term in Congress.

The 116th Congress has already shattered historical records:

Unprecedented number of female representatives (102) and senators (25)
First Native American women elected to Congress (Deb Haaland, D-NM01; Sharice Davids, D-KS03)
First Muslim American women elected to Congress (Ilhan Omar, D-MN05; Rashida Tlaib, D-MI11)
First openly bisexual person elected to the Senate (Kyrsten Sinema, D-AZ)
Record number of millenial representatives (26), with Representative-Elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez becoming the youngest woman to ever serve in Congress
First women to represent their state in the Senate (Marsha Blackburn, R-TN; Kyrsten Sinema, D-AZ)

Shortly after the swearing in, the House of Representatives will begin the vote for House Speaker (the Senate and other House leadership has already been selected by caucus votes). Former House Speaker and Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi is expected to be elected Speaker.
