/r/Politics is looking for more moderators!

Hello r/politics users!

While the presidential election of 2020 is long behind us, this sub remains highly active as the largest platform for discussing US politics on the internet. Because it can be a challenge to address reports on comments and submissions in addition to everything else we have going on such as AMAs, discussion threads and megathreads, we are looking for new moderators who are willing to help us out.

We have always had a link in our sidebar where users can apply to be a moderator, and users are welcome to apply at any time, but we've historically added most of our new mods in recruitment drives like this that try to reach a larger audience.

Who are we looking for?

Below are a few basic criteria for ideal moderator candidates:

  • Interest in American politics and time to contribute to moderating. Since this is a highly active subreddit with a large volume of reports, we require a consistent amount of activity to help out with reports and discuss with other moderators on preparing discussion threads or help on various projects.

  • Willingness to put effort into learning how to moderate and desire to join the team. Especially at the beginning, it's a large investment of time and patience to learn our rules and procedures. Please make sure that you're in a position to dedicate a fair amount of time at the outset to receiving feedback and learning how to moderate if you intend to apply.

  • Impartiality. While everyone has opinions, especially on a topic as opinionated as US politics, we as a mod team strive for impartiality to make sure that we are enforcing our rules fairly. Enforcing the subreddit rules is not about removing opinions you disagree with, and we take impartiality seriously in evaluating and retaining new moderators.

  • Civil behavior on and history of interaction with the subreddit. We need to know that, if given the chance to engage with the subreddit and users in an official capacity, you will do so in accordance with our rules. While we do recruit moderators who are not regular participants on r/politics, our preference is for users who have interacted here before.

Additionally, while not required, programming experience or prior experience with automoderator is helpful. Familiarity and willingness to use Slack as a messaging platform is strongly encouraged.

This, of course, doesn't represent the entirety of what we are looking for, but if you believe you fit the above criteria, please fill out an application! All applications during a recruitment drive are evaluated, though some candidates may be deferred to later recruitment rounds depending on circumstances. The sticky comment below indicates how long we intend to keep this recruitment drive going for, which may change depending on how many applications we receive. To everyone who submits an application, thank you in advance!
