Megathread: Southern California Wildfires Posted: 08 Dec 2017 08:31 AM PST The Southern California wildfires are an ongoing disaster and this thread will serve as the central discussion place as things continue to unfold. Here's what we know right now (Friday, Dec 8th at 8:15am PST) There are now 6 major wildfires: Rye Fire Skirball Fire Creek Fire Thomas Fire Lilac Fire Liberty Fire You can view the fire map here. The latest stats from Cal Fire are: 141,000 acres burned 190,000 residents evacuated 23,000 homes threatened 5,700 firefighters on the lines 500 confirmed structures destroyed And as of this morning, news outlets are reporting two deaths. Yesterday, fire officials brought a historic fire danger score and prompted them to upgrade their color-coding system to include purple for the first time. Map here.
