We found hundreds of thousands of college students, mostly low-income, minority, and veterans, were being preyed upon every year by predatory for-profit colleges and universities. Moreover, we discovered that not only were these operations sanctioned by U.S. Department of Education, but the companies found strong support on both sides of aisle in Washington, D.C. All told, millions of Americans have fallen victim to for-profit colleges over the past two decades and no major college executive has gone to jail for wrongdoing. And, unfortunately, Secretary DeVos and her team at the Department of Education are now dismantling the little safeguards in place to protect students and taxpayers from even the most egregious abuses. It's my hope that Fail State stops their deregulatory efforts and prevents others from falling victim to subprime colleges.
