After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill's journalism school in 2015, I've made my living as a graphic designer & front-end web developer. I'm challenging incumbent Rep. David E. Price (D) for North Carolina's 4th Congressional district—one of the most heavily gerrymandered in the United States. This campaign is a wager that the Democratic Party's strategic mindset is fundamentally at odds with reality. Decades of appealing to "moderates" and "swing voters" has stifled turnout and lost us hundreds of seats. We believe the way to engage disillusioned and nonvoting Americans is to present a strong, cohesive narrative for our future. We have a decade to save this planet. The GOP has openly embraced fascism and continues to deny science. Few Democratic leaders behave like they understand this. Green New Deal. Medicare For All. End the War on Drugs. → These simple phrases represent key, comprehensive solutions to the web of problems we face. The future where we overcome existential crisis demands these solutions. Why should we define ourselves by only the next step in policy? Where are Democrats trying to go beyond "defeating Trump?" Americans need a stark contrast from our current trajectory. Now is not the time to fear showing conviction. It never was.
