| /r/Politics now has user-selectable flair representing Indigenous Nations. Posted: 11 Mar 2022 06:42 PM PST Since 2016, /r/Politics has given users the option to represent themselves using flair text & icons next to their usernames. These flairs started with primarily the 50 U.S. States, and have expanded slightly to include U.S. territories such as Guam as well as more general flairs like "American Expat" and "Europe". Recently, a user brought up our lack of flairs representing American Indian tribal nations. Due to the unique governmental status of these tribes and their interplay with federal & local governments, the /r/Politics mod team decided it was definitely a fair request to let community members here within tribal nations represent themselves that way as well. While the U.S. federal government recognizes over 500 tribes, we don't have various resources to add that many flairs. Consequently we have elected to add new flairs for the 13 tribes & tribal groups that are largest by population: Unagan Dena Tlingit-Haida Inuit Pueblo Iroquois Blackfeet Apache Chippewa Sioux Chahta Diné Cherokee In addition, for any users here who wish to demonstrate tribal membership but don't affiliate with any of the groups above, we've added an "Indigenous" flair represented by a Turtle Island flag.
