Discussion Megathread: Christopher Wray Confirmation Hearing For Director of FBI

Christopher A. Wray, President Trump's nominee for F.B.I. director, will appear Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his confirmation hearing.

If confirmed, Mr. Wray will face a host of challenges, including low morale at the F.B.I., where many agents are still angry over the president's firing in May of the F.B.I. director James B. Comey.

Mr. Wray, a former federal prosecutor in President George W. Bush's administration and a criminal defense lawyer, will face tough questions about whether he will maintain the bureau's independence and resist pressure from the White House.

As Executive Director of the Barbara Lee Family Foundation, I work every day to engage women in the political process and give women the tools they need to successfully run for public office.

When other girls my age were reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, I was already interested in gender issues. My entire career has focused on women's equality and empowerment-- first as an advocate for women's reproductive rights and now as a champion of electing women to public office at the Barbara Lee Family Foundation (BLFF).

BLFF research can help by given women the information they need about the obstacles and opportunities they will face on the path to public office. We have 20 years of research studying complex attitudes toward women candidates and real-time polling on voters' views on everything from words that work for women candidates to how to call out an opponent's record.

I'm excited to hear from all of you about your perceptions of the political climate for women - what obstacles you've seen women candidates face and any opportunities you think women candidates and elected officials have in today's political climate.
