[Announcement] Winter Banner Contest

Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:28 AM PST

Hello one and all! It's that time of year again to change our banner - this time from an election theme to an annual winter theme. This year we've decided to run a contest where members of the community can submit their banners and the winning entry will be placed at the top of the subreddit for all to see.

How This Works

Phase 1 - Submissions

Submit your entries here. In the thread below, please comment with a direct image link to your entry and a short description if you choose to include one. The description is purely for the enjoyment of the community - it will not be a determining factor for the winner.

Submissions will be open for 3 days.

Note: All comments in this thread will be removed until manually approved by a moderator. Please comment only with entries and give us some time to review your submission.

Phase 2 - Finalists Selection

Once all the entries are in, the sub mods will vote on their top 10 favorite submissions. These 10 finalists will then be presented to the community. Selection should take about 3 days.

Phase 3 - Picking the Winner

The 10 finalists will be submitted as a poll to the community in which all users can vote, also for 3 days. At the end of the 3 days, the entry with the most votes will be declared the winner and their banner placed at the top of the sub.

Rules

In order to participate and your entry to be considered, a few rules must be adhered to. All submissions must meet the following criteria:

  1. Safe for work and do not contain any inappropriate imagery or words
  2. Original content only
  3. Winter themed (no holiday-specific content)
  4. Non-partisan
  5. Must follow the Reddit Banner Guidelines for a Large banner

In addition, any troll submissions (graphic content / gore / porn / etc.) will result in a subreddit ban.

Users may choose to sign their Reddit username on the bottom right of the banner. If you prefer not to have your username at the top of the subreddit, that is OK too.

Prizes

Once a winner has been selected, we will also be handing out some small prizes, which are as follows:

  1. First, second, and third places will receive a Platinum Award (one month of Reddit Premium)
  2. Fourth through tenth places will receive a Gold Award (one week of Reddit Premium)

Have fun! We're looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with.

Discussion Thread: The Electoral College Meets to Vote for President – 12/14/2020 | 10:00 am ET

Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:00 AM PST

Electors will gather in their respective states to formally cast their votes for President and Vice President. Meetings will be held throughout the day as determined by each state legislature. The earliest meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am ET and the latest at 7:00 pm ET.

Votes are cast by paper ballot: one for President and one for Vice President. The votes are then counted, and the electors sign six Certificates of Vote. Each Certificate of Vote is attached with a Certificate of Ascertainment provided by the state governor. The six packets are then mailed to state and federal officials as specified by law. The packet that is sent to the president of the Senate will be the official copy used when Congress counts the electoral votes on January 6.
