Hello Reddit, my name is Forrest Dunbar, and I'm excited to answer your questions 48 days out from the Anchorage Mayoral election! I'm a lifelong Alaskan who grew up in a town of 200 on the Yukon River and then moved to a comparative metropolis of 2,000 near where the Exxon Valdez ran aground. I was the Democratic Nominee for Congress in 2014 and have served on the Anchorage Assembly since 2016, with two stints as the Chair. Outside of local politics, I work as an attorney for an Alaska Native Corporation and as an officer in the Alaska Army National Guard.

Anchorage faces challenges similar to many cities across the US, we must recover from the immediate public health crisis and get our local economy back on track. But Anchorage also has some unique advantages - a spectacular natural setting, a deep Indigenous history, and a diverse, rising generation of Alaskans eager to contribute. Anchorage can and should be a livable, walkable, bikeable city, with our best days still ahead of us.
