Discussion Thread: OH-11, OH-15 Special Election Primary Results

Today, primary voters in Ohio's 11th and 15th congressional districts head to the polls to decide the major party nominees for the special elections to be held in those seats. Ohio's 11th district was vacated by former Democratic representative Marcia Fudge upon her appointment as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Ohio's 15th district was vacated by former Republican representative Steve Stivers upon him becoming CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The special general election will be held on November 2nd.

Both races host primaries that have attracted significant national attention. In OH-11, a safely blue district which President Biden carried by nearly 61 points in 2020, former state Senator Nina Turner, who was a vocal supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign and who has secured endorsements from a number of national progressive politicians, faces off against Cuyahoga City Councilwoman Shontel Brown, who has been endorsed by House majority whip Jim Clyburn and former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. In OH-15, a fairly red district which former President Trump carried by 14 points in 2020, a severely splintered field pits Trump-endorsed Mike Carey, a former coal-mining executive, against a number of other Republican candidates, including Jeff LaRe, who secured the endorsements of numerous state legislators as well as former Congressman Stivers.

Polls close at 7:30PM local time.
