Discussion Megathread: CA-34 Special Election and New Jersey Gubernatorial Primary

Posted: 06 Jun 2017 08:27 AM PDT

Introduction

Today, California will be holding a special election for its 34th district. The seat was vacated by Xavier Becerra after he was appointed to serve the remainder of Senator Kamala Harris' term as California Attorney General. Polls close at 8PM Pacific. Regular voter registration is closed, but voters in that district may still cast a provisional ballot.

Additionally, New Jersey is holding its gubernatorial primary today (along with various local elections). New Jersey is one of 4 states that holds its gubernatorial elections in off years (the other 3 being Virginia, which will be holding its primary next week, Louisiana, and Kentucky, both of which hold their next gubernatorial elections in 2019). Incumbent Governor Chris Christie is term-limited and is ineligible to run. Polls close at 8PM Eastern. New Jersey's primary does not permit same-day registration.
