Discussion Thread: Supreme Court decisions Week of 6/26/17

Introduction

Welcome to /r/politics' discussion thread for Supreme Court decisions! The Supreme Court traditionally releases a number of decisions on Mondays, with many high profile cases (eg. Obergefell v. Hodges; NFIB v. Sebelius) being decided in June. We aren't sure what cases will come out this week, but a couple significant ones have not been decided yet. This thread is intended for users to discuss newly issued opinions, as well as opinions from earlier this term. As a reminder, please be civil and respect our comment rules.

Opinions, notable Orders, and Grant of Certiorari

Order List
Travel Ban. SCOTUS granted cert and struck down the temporary restraining order that the lower courts had imposed on President Trump's travel ban, except in cases where individuals being barred have a bona fide relationship with the United States.
Masterpiece Cakeshop. The Supreme Court granted cert to hear this case, which involves a Colorado bakery denying service to a same sex couple.
Trinity Lutheran v. Comer. The Court held that the state may not deny a public benefit to any group on the basis of religion. Here, a church day care was denied public funding to improve its facilities on the basis of a longstanding department policy to not provide grants to any religious group.
Davila v. Davis. SCOTUS held that ineffective assistance of appellate counsel does not constitute a basis for federal habeas relief.
Peruta v. California. SCOTUS denied cert in this case, which involved whether the Second Amendment permitted individuals to carry firearms outside of the home for purposes of self-defense, even in states which do not have concealed carry laws.
