Today at 12 pm ET (noon), the 117th Congress is being sworn in.

The House follows the following protocol:

A call to order by the Clerk of the House
A prayer led by the House Chaplain and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Clerk
The election of the Speaker of the House
A statement by the Speaker-elect, followed by his/her swearing-in by the dean of the House
Administration of the Oath of Office by the Speaker-elect to all members of the House
Adoption of the rules, resolutions, policies and floor practices.

The Senate follows a slightly different protocol:

The swearing in of individual members of the elected class of Senators by Vice President Pence
Establishing the presence of a quorum3. Adoption of resolutions
