Discussion Thread: House of Representatives votes on whether to censure Congressman Paul Gosar Posted: 17 Nov 2021 09:45 AM PST Today, the US House of Representatives is considering a resolution to formally censure a member of the House. Last week, Republican Congressman Paul Gosar, who represents Arizona's 4th Congressional District, posted a video on his Twitter account which depicted an animated version of him using a sword to strike fellow member Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat. The video attracted widespread criticism and condemnation from Democrats, as well as a call from House Republican leader Congressman Kevin McCarthy, after which Gosar took the video down and issued a statement saying that he did not condone violence. Should the House formally censure Gosar, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also pushed for Gosar to be stripped of committee assignments. Congressman Gosar currently sits on the House Oversight Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. The House took similar action earlier this year against first term Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was removed from the Budget and Education and Labor committees, for apparent support of political violence against Democrats. In that vote, 11 Republicans joined all Democrats to vote to strip Greene of her committee assignments. So far, Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger and Congresswoman Liz Cheney have indicated they support Gosar's censure. Watch Live: [link] [comments] | ||
