| Discussion Megathread: The House votes on the AHCA Posted: 04 May 2017 08:59 AM PDT Introduction This morning, the House of Representatives began the process for voting on the AHCA, the Republican repeal and replacement of key portions of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The vote is expected between 1:15 and 1:45PM in the afternoon. Changes Recent developments since the last time the bill was almost brought up for consideration include: The MacArthur Amendment, which was a concession to the House Freedom Caucus allowing states to apply for ACA waivers to certain regulations (such as increasing variance in cost for those with preexisting conditions) if they could lower costs for residents. The Upton Amendment, a concession to the moderate Tuesday Group, which would allocate $8 billion over 5 years to states which applied for waivers to help cover the high risk pool which could see premiums rise as a result of the changes in the funding method.
