Hello everyone! I'm Sarah Burns, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

My research examines the intersection of political liberalization and American constitutional development with an eye toward policy implications for democratization across the globe.

I blog for Learn Liberty, where I've written on American history (1), American foreign policy (2,3), elections (4,5), and constitutionalism (6). I was also featured in their series on America's Founding.

I'm currently working on a book that examines the theoretical and historical development of war powers, demonstrating how the constitutional system creates an invitation to struggle that the political branches increasingly ignore.

Lately (as you can tell from the articles above), I've been particularly interested in the role that our liberal institutions play in the age of Trump.

Ask me anything!

Thanks for sharing such great, thought-provoking questions everybody! This was a blast. I am all out of time for now, but I may check back in later to see if I can answer some more questions I wasn't able to get to yet.

Special thanks to the /r/Politics mod team and Learn Liberty for setting this up! If you want to see more content from professors like me exploring classical liberal thought in politics, economics, history, and more—I'd highly recommend checking them out. And look out for more AMA's on Reddit to come!
