Megathread: Supreme Court Rules Against Trump Administration Attempt to End DACA

Posted: 18 Jun 2020 07:15 AM PDT

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Trump administration cannot carry out its plan to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which has allowed nearly 800,000 young people, known as "Dreamers," to avoid deportation and remain in the U.S.

The decision is a big legal defeat for President Donald Trump on the issue of immigration, which has been a major focus of his domestic agenda. The ruling said the government failed to give an adequate justification for ending the federal program, calling the move "arbitrary and capricious under the APA."

I am John Dickerson, 60 Minutes correspondent and author of THE HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD about the US presidency. Ask Me Anything!

Hello! I'm John Dickerson, a 60 Minutes Correspondent and author of The Hardest Job in the World: The American Presidency, the culmination of about 10 years of work on the presidency. It is not a set of tablets delivered from the mountain top. (The printing would be brutal). Instead, it is an examination of the architecture of the office-- why we think of it the way we do, whether that's good or bad and what we should do to improve the way we think about the presidency. It also looks at some basic questions-- What does it mean to lie? What does it mean to be presidential? Why should presidents take responsibility? I hope it becomes a tool for thinking about this presidential season when the stakes are so high.

I am also a co-host of the Slate Political Gabfest and Senior Political Analyst for CBS News. I sometimes write about parenting, music and other things. I have a dog named George. I once did a toothpaste commercial. Ask me anything!
